“Just One Mobile for 5 Minutes…” 😄
Article By: Fazal Rahaman, Director, KidsPark
Every parent has said this at least once.
“Just take the mobile for 5 minutes… Amma needs peace.”
But somehow… that 5 minutes becomes:
- during lunch 🍛
- before sleep 😴
- while travelling 🚗
- during family functions 🎉
- during this... during that...
-
and sometimes even inside the bathroom door waiting area. 😄
I know a lot of parents who live with mobile in the bathroom but restrict the same when children copy them.
Remember: Kids learn by seeing what you do.
Today’s children know:
- how to unlock phones (infact, they know how to crack your passwords 😄)
- skip YouTube ads
- increase brightness
- and find cartoons faster than parents finding bank apps.
Funny? Yes.
Dangerous if it becomes a habit? Also yes.
Child psychologist Jean Piaget once said:
“Play is the work of childhood.”
Not scrolling.
Not tapping “Next Video.” 😄
At a young age, children learn best by:
- touching things
- asking questions
- making noise
- playing with other children
-
and sometimes making the house look like a cyclone warning area. 😄
That is real learning.
Screens are not completely bad.
But when mobile becomes the main friend of a child, slowly:
- patience reduces
- outdoor play reduces
- communication reduces
And parents start hearing:
👉 “Phone kudunga…” every 10 minutes.
So what’s the solution?
Not “throw away all mobiles.”
- ✅ Set screen limits
- ✅ Spend active play time daily
- ✅ Encourage real-world interaction
- ✅ Introduce children to environments where they learn through play—not just screens
Because childhood should be filled with:
🎨 colours
🧸 toys
👫 friendships
🎵 rhymes
🌱 experiences
— not only reels and cartoons.
